Description

The Church of St Michael, built between 1881 and 1882 by architects Austin, Johnson and Hicks, is a Grade II listed building. The hammerbeam roof was added in 1886, followed by the north and south aisles in 1894, and the tower in 1909. Constructed from red brick with ashlar dressings, the church is designed in the "Decorated" style, featuring a distinct French influence that enhances its richness and elaboration. The nave and chancel are covered by a single high-pitched roof, while the aisles have flat roofs. A notable feature is the free-standing octagonal campanile located at the south-east corner. The church also includes a window designed by Kempe.
