Description
The former Talbot Memorial House is a Grade II listed building located in Westoe Village. Built in 1810, it features red brick construction and a slate roof. The house has two storeys with an attic and consists of five bays. All windows are sash with glazing bars and have stone heads. The building has stone rusticated quoins, and the three central bays project forward, topped with a pediment. A Doric porch with slender columns leads to the entrance, which has a semi-circular headed fanlight and an attractive cast lead fanlight. There is a continuous stone cill for the ground and first floor windows, along with a stone floor band at the first floor level. The rear of the house includes bow windows. A distinctive feature of this property is the octagonal timber "Belvedere" situated at the center of the roof. This house is considered one of the grandest examples from the late 18th to early 19th century in Westoe, as noted in "A History of Westoe" by A C Flagg, published in 1964.
