Description

These are two early 18th-century cottages, possibly dating from the early 1700s. The walls are rendered and feature stone quoins, with a modern red clay tile roof. The cottages are two storeys high and have five bays arranged irregularly. The three ground-floor windows are designed to resemble Georgian windows, featuring large openings. Two recessed entrance doors are located beside each other at ground level. The first-floor windows are casements set within the original window openings; the two western windows have four panes, while the three eastern windows have three panes each. A plain opening at the western end provides access to Westoe Passage, historically known as Salters’ Trail, which was once part of an ancient bridleway, although its route has shifted over time.
