Description

Numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4, together with the terrace in front, form a group of four houses dating to around 1800. The houses are built of English garden wall bond brick with ashlar dressings, resting on a painted, incised rendered plinth with roll-moulded coping. They are roofed with Welsh slate. A terrace of sandstone flags and irregular cobbles sits in front.

The houses are two storeys high. Number 4 has five bays, while the others have three. Each house features a central six-panelled door, topped by a fanlight, set within a Tuscan doorcase with a broken pediment. Most windows have wedge stone lintels and glazing bars, although Number 2’s windows are of a later, 19th-century style. Number 3 has a tripartite sash window with a stop-chamfered stone lintel and projecting stone sill, and Number 1 has four- and two-light casements flanking the door. Sill bands run along the walls, and moulded eaves gutter boards are present on numbers 2, 3, and 4, while Number 1 has a modillioned eaves gutter board. The hipped roof is topped with five ashlar-corniced brick ridge chimneys. A cast iron footscraper is located to the right of the step at Number 4.
