Description
Numbers 5 and 6, along with the terrace in front, are two houses built around 1830 located on the north side of Tynemouth Camp Terrace in North Shields. They are constructed of English bond brick with a tooled ashlar plinth and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The terrace features sandstone flags and cobbles.
The houses are two storeys high, each with five bays. They have central four-panelled doors with two-pane overlights set in Greek Doric doorcases. The sash windows have projecting stone sills with glazing bars and wedged stone lintels on the ground floor, as well as first floor and lintel/eaves bands. There are three ashlar-corniced brick chimneys on the ridge of the hipped roof. Nosed ashlar steps lead to the door, with an original iron handrail at number 5. The windows in the returns feature trompe l'oeil glazing bars. The terrace in front is laid with square sandstone flags and irregular cobbles.
