Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Lovaine Terrace are a pair of town houses built in 1852 by builder George Homsby. They are constructed of pale brick with ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs. The buildings have raised quoins, a first-floor band, and a second-floor band that links the keystones, along with a moulded cornice at the attic level. The houses are two storeys plus an attic, with the south-east front displaying seven windows arranged in a 2-3-2 pattern. The three central windows are recessed, with a doorway to the left featuring a Gibbs surround and two Doric columns supporting a flat hood. To the right are two 12-pane sash windows, also with Gibbs surrounds, and on either side are two similar 12-pane sashes. Above, there are seven round-headed 12-pane sashes with moulded surrounds and keystones, plus bracketed cills; the outer wings originally supported balconies. Above these are seven 16-pane sashes.
The north-east front has four windows arranged in a 2-2 pattern, with the bays on the left projecting. The ground floor to the right features a Doric pilaster doorcase and a four-panel door, with a 12-pane sash window in a Gibbs surround to the right. To the left is a broad canted two-storey bay window with three glazing bar sashes, and above it are three round-headed sashes in moulded surrounds with keystones. To the right are two similar round-headed sashes, and above them are four small 16-pane sashes.
