Description

Nos. 52-72 and attached fences and shed are two terraces consisting of seven houses and two flats, designed to resemble eight houses on plan. They were built between 1979 and 1982 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with site architect Vernon Gracie and structural engineer White, Young and Partners. The main contractor was Stanley Miller Ltd. The buildings are constructed from pale yellow metric modular brick on concrete block, with weatherboard cladding and Marley Modern tiled roofs. They are two storeys high.

Nos. 64 and 66 are flats, featuring an enlarged ground-floor porch and a first-floor living room window. The first floor of nos. 64-68 and no. 72 is clad in blue weatherboarding, while no. 70 has black weatherboarding, creating a continuous strip with windows. The projecting porches and the end bird box outside no. 72 are also finished in black weatherboarding. Some of the doors are red, and there are integral green fences. The rear elevations are entirely clad in black weatherboarding. Nos. 56-62 are weatherboarded in black, with bird boxes at either end, and feature green weatherboarding on the porches, red doors, and black fences. The windows are timber framed with timber surrounds and aluminium opening lights, mostly sliding; some doors at nos. 68 and 70 have been renewed in hardwood. Blue door hoods are present on the north elevations of nos. 56-62, and there is a blue door at no. 56. These two short terraces form a square around a central store, which has brick ends and brown weatherboarding, and is an integral part of the overall design.
