Description

This is a terrace of houses, part of Nos. 9-13 Ravensworth Terrace and including No. 269 Westgate Road, likely dating to around 1820. The construction is primarily English garden wall bond brick with an ashlar basement and dressings, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The terrace comprises a basement, three storeys, and attics, with each house originally having two bays. Steps lead up to six-panelled doors, with an overlight featuring glazing bars to the left door of No. 13, and fanlights with glazing bars to Nos. 9 and 12. Doorcases are present on Nos. 11 to 13, with No. 11 featuring an open pediment on panelled pilasters; No. 12 an open dentilled pediment on Corinthian attached columns; and No. 13 fluted pilasters with an entablature. Many of the sash windows retain their original glazing bars, although those in No. 11 have been lost and those in No. 12 have been altered. Wedge stone lintels are present above the windows. The facade includes ground and first-floor sill bands, and projecting stone sills to the top floor. A gutter cornice, modillioned at No. 12, runs along the top of the terrace. There are a variety of chimneys, some at the ridge and some mid-side. Dormers are varied, including pedimented, segmental, gabled, and flat styles.
