Description

Two statues of griffins, dating from around 1872, are located in front of Westgate Grange on the south side of Westgate Road in Newcastle upon Tyne. These griffins were originally finials on the roof of the Mining Institute on Westgate Road. They were removed in 1958 and placed on the steps in front of No. 271. Each griffin is approximately one metre high, sitting upright and holding a long scroll draped over its shoulder.
