Description

This is a terrace of houses located on Lancaster Street in Newcastle upon Tyne, dating from the mid-19th century. The houses are generally constructed of English garden wall bond brick, with a painted ashlar plinth and dressings. Number 13 uses Flemish bond brickwork, with sandstone rubble forming the rear and side returns, although number 13 is an exception. Welsh slate covers the roofs.

The terrace consists of 2 storeys and 2 bays per house. Each house features architraves around the doorways and overlights, and wedge stone lintels above the windows. The windows are mostly sash windows, with projecting stone ground-floor sills and a first-floor sill band. A late 19th-century canted bay window has been inserted into number 11. There is an eaves band and gutter cornice running along the top. Brick chimneys are located at the ends of the terrace.

The terrace is listed for group value with the nearby Church of St. Matthew, and as an example of early working-class housing.
