Description
Benwell Waterworks Chimney is a pumping engine chimney built in 1904 for the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company, with consulting engineer Charles Hawksley and resident engineer A.L. Forster. The chimney is constructed of Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and features an octagonal shape with classical design elements. It has a tall panelled base with a rounded moulding at the plinth, as well as a top band and cornice. This structure is included in the register for its landmark value.
