Description

A row of houses, now shops, offices, and flats, dating to around 1837 and likely designed by John Wardle for Richard Grainger. The buildings are constructed of sandstone ashlar with a roof that is not visible. The row comprises 4 storeys and 3 bays per building, with number 26 projecting slightly. The ground floor is rusticated. Steps lead to 8-panelled doors, each with a fanlight featuring glazing bars, set within plain reveals. Sash windows, mostly with glazing bars, are also within plain reveals. A sill band runs along the second floor, and floor bands are present throughout. A prominent cornice sits above the second floor, topped by a cornice and blocking course. Number 30 suffered fire damage and was under restoration at the time of the survey.
