Description
Nos. 1-59 are six terraces of houses built between 1978 and 1981 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with Vernon Gracie as the site architect and White, Young and Partners as the structural engineer. The main contractor was Fairclough Buildings Ltd. The houses are constructed of red brick, featuring brown weatherboarded end walls on the north side and white weatherboarding on the south side, topped with concrete tiled roofs made of Marley Modern tiles. They are one to two storeys high and are split-level houses located on a steeply sloping hill, which means that the kitchen windows on the north-east side are at ground level. The design includes prominent triangular staircase windows and little metal bird boxes at either end. The houses have timber windows set in timber surrounds with aluminium opening lights, and timber doors with glazed panels, some of which have been replaced with hardwood. The interiors have not been inspected. The timber fences, especially at the ends where they follow the slope of the weatherboarding, are an important part of the overall design.
