Description

These are a group of six houses, now with shops, dating from the late 18th century. They are located on the north side of Fenkle Street in Newcastle upon Tyne. The houses are built of English bond brick with ashlar dressings, and have a Welsh slate roof. They are three storeys high and six bays wide. The shop fronts date from the late 19th century and have a bracketed fascia cornice. The entrance to the central house is via a four-panelled door and overlight, set in deep reveals beneath a wedge stone lintel, preceded by two steps. Similar wedge stone lintels are above the plain sash windows on the upper floors; the second-floor windows have projecting stone sills. A first-floor sill band and an eaves band are visible, as is a gutter cornice. There are two brick chimneys at the ends of the building, with the right-hand chimney truncated. The building was empty at the time of the survey.
