Description

Warehouses were built between 1841 and 1844 for Amor Spoor. They are constructed of Flemish bond brick with an ashlar plinth and dressings, topped with a felt-covered roof and stone gable copings. The warehouses are seven storeys high and comprise 43 bays. Five gabled bays are visible at warehouse number 40 on the left, three bays at number 50, and then a further 16 bays. Warehouse number 40 has a central, wider bay and six stacks of loading bays; warehouse number 50 has three stacks of loading bays; and the remaining bays have four. Some loading bay stacks have been bricked up, with all of the external ones at warehouse number 40 entirely bricked up. The windows are round-headed, with projecting stone sills. The south elevation, which faces The Close, features two tall, wide, rusticated sandstone arched entrances. A modern addition at the west end is not of architectural interest.
