Description
The town wall located north of The Close and Breakneck Stairs in Newcastle upon Tyne dates from the late 13th century to early 14th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone, with lower courses made of rubble. The wall remains stand to a height of about 3 metres and extend northwards up a steep hill. There is a flight of steps alongside the wall. This structure is also recognized as a scheduled ancient monument.
