Description
The memorial to Thomas Ramsay is located about 42 metres south of the mortuary chapels in Blaydon Cemetery. It was created by G. Burn from Newcastle and commemorates Ramsay, who died in 1873. Erected by the miners of Durham, the memorial honors his long and self-sacrificing efforts for human progress. The structure features a sandstone pedestal with an inscription on the east face and a statue of a man dressed in Victorian clothing, holding a scroll under his left arm. The memorial is supported by four pillars with clasping bands and topped with a tall gabled crocketed canopy.
