Description

Vigo is a house built in 1810, as indicated by its deeds. It is constructed from coursed squared stone with quoins and features a hipped Welsh slate roof. The house has cornice-banded stone chimneys and a bracketed cast-iron eaves gutter. It is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys. The main front consists of three bays, with a central plain classical ashlar doorcase that leads to a reproduction six-panel door and an oblong fanlight above. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are framed by painted stone lintels and slightly projecting sills. The right return has a four-bay arrangement with similar windows, while the two end bays have a lower roof line. The rear walls are made of rubble. Inside, the house retains original six-panel doors and architraves, most cornices, window panelling and shutters, two carved marble chimney-pieces, and a staircase with shaped tread ends. Attached to the left return is a tall brick wall with a stone flat coping and a stone inner leaf that extends westwards.
