Description
The statue of E.M. Perkins, located at the north end of Monument Terrace, was created in 1874 by G. Burn of Newcastle. It features a white marble figure dressed in military uniform, which stands on a corniced sandstone pedestal atop a plinth with a chamfered base and three steps. The statue is surrounded by pink granite panels on all four sides. The south panel bears the inscription: "ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF EDWARD MOSELEY PERKINS OF BIRTLEY HALL LT. COL. 1ST A.D. BATT. D.R.V. 1874." This information was reported in the Newcastle Daily Chronicle on June 23, 1874.
