Description

The Rectory is an 18th-century house with 19th-century additions, located on Church Road in Eglescliffe. It is a two-storey, three-window house of substantial size, constructed from local pinkish brick. The roof is now slated, with rebuilt gable end walls in a Dutch style to connect to later extensions. Stone kneelers and copings are present, along with elaborate chimneys constructed as column shafts. The extensions are built with brighter red brick and feature steeply-pitched gable ends also in a Dutch style. All windows are sash windows with glazing bars and are set beneath gauged brick arches. A prominent doorway is located on the east end, featuring a half-glazed double door with side lights, and a fanlight above with pointed arched elements and a four-centred arch.
