Description
The dovecote located to the north of The Friarage is probably from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It is octagonal in shape, constructed of red brick with sandstone block quoins, and features a pointed pantiled roof. There is an extension to the northeast made of red brick with bands of darker brick and sandstone, which may be of a later date. The structure has two storeys and a first-floor string course. It includes a few round-arched openings with weathered stone surrounds. Inside the extension, which has part of an arcade on the ground floor, there are three barrel vaults that support a platform. A higher platform conceals the upper part of the main building, and there are no shelves or nesting boxes remaining.
