Description
St. Mary's Priory ruins are the remains of an Augustinian Priory founded in 1119 by Robert de Brus. The site includes the late 13th century east wall of the church, the foundations of the west end with bases of nave piers, and the late 13th to 14th century cellarer's range located to the southwest. At the south end of this range, there is a service passage featuring three bays of intact quadripartite rib vaulting. Additionally, the lower courses of the Curia and north aisle wall are present, which include a fireplace and two doorways. These ruins are topped by a late 18th century high dressed sandstone boundary wall that extends eastward to connect with the east wall of the Priory church. All elements are constructed of dressed sandstone. The site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument No. 19.
