Description
The White Horse Public House is a public house located on Loftus High Street, dating from the early 19th century. It was altered and raised by one and a half storeys in the mid-19th century, with windows and doors renewed in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of dressed sandstone and features a Lakeland slate roof with stone gable copings and a moulded kneeler at the left end. The chimney stacks are rebuilt in rendered brick.
The structure stands at two and a half storeys high and has three windows across the front. A central four-panel door with an overlight is framed by a timber doorcase with pilasters and an entablature. On the ground floor, there are canted bay windows with sash windows and a cornice. The first floor features sash windows, although the middle window has been blocked and now supports a bracketed hanging sign. The gabled full dormers have paired sashes with basket-arched top lights and painted sills. The chimney stacks are located on the ridge and at the left end. There are late 19th-century rear extensions, but these are not considered of special interest. The building is included for its group value.
