Description

Lovell Drift Fan House is a disused cast slag-concrete structure that served as a ventilation fan housing for an ironstone mine, built around 1871. The building has a rectangular plan and features a gabled roof, although the roof covering is now missing. It has buttresses on the east and west sides and a ventilation tower on the west side. There is also a ramped tunnel leading into the hillside on the south side. This fan house is one of several large structures built for the Cleveland ironstone mines and is now recognized as the finest surviving example. It is included in the register for its industrial archaeological interest.
