Description

The Hollies is a house dating from around 1810. It was constructed using ashlar stone and has a roof of Scottish slate. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and it has a three-bay facade. Raised alternating quoins are a prominent feature. A concrete porch was added around 1930, featuring a 19th-century flush-panel door within a bolection-moulded surround, a wooden hood supported by large brackets, and flanking oeil-de-boeuf windows. The windows are 12-pane sashes, and there is an eaves cornice. The gabled roof is finished with corniced end stacks.

Inside, the staircase has stick balusters, turned newels, and a ramped handrail. Six-panel doors are used throughout. One panelled room features panelled pilasters flanking the fireplace. The fireplace itself is made of pine and decorated with gesso, including intertwined roses and thistles. The central panel of the frieze displays seashells and seaweed.
