Description
Ford Forge is a building that was originally constructed as a large estate smithy and later became a commercial forge specializing in making spades. It is now disused. The forge was built in 1767 and extended around 1830 to 1840. The structure features roughly-coursed stone with dressings and has a roof made of Welsh slate and concrete tiles. It stands two storeys high and is divided into two sections.
The older section on the left consists of four bays and has steps leading to a boarded door located in the second bay. It also features shuttered windows and a steeply-pitched roof with flat coping, along with a brick end stack and a ridge stack.
The lower 19th-century section on the right has five bays, with stone steps leading to a boarded door in the central bay. The left bay includes boarded double doors, while the fourth bay features boarded double doors set within a Tudor arch that has a keystone. This section also has shuttered windows.
The forge is included in the register for its historical significance.
