Description
Gates, gatepiers, and railings located about 1 mile south of Etal Manor were likely constructed between 1830 and 1840 for Lord Frederick Fitz Clarence. They are made of ashlar and wrought iron. The tall, square gatepiers feature cornices and shaped fielded panels, with lower projections on the outside that display large scrolls. The tall double gates have a shallow domed top and are designed with close-set bars, adorned with bands of small ovals at the top and bottom, and a central band of scrolls.
The flanking railings extend approximately 10 yards in length and stand 3 feet high, designed in a similar style. The end piers are low and corniced.
