Description
This is a range of farm buildings located to the north of the Old Farmhouse, dating from 1795 and the mid-19th century. Originally serving as a stable, barn, granaries, and an engine house, the buildings are now primarily used for granaries and storage. The older sections are constructed of ashlar with Scottish slate roofs, while the later parts are made of rubble with dressings and pantiled roofs. One section has an asbestos roof, and there is a brick chimney from the engine house.
The buildings form a long, two-storey range that rises higher in three stages. The first floor features several small square windows. The structure has reverse-stepped coping and steeply-pitched roofs. There is a date inscription, HON WC 1795, commemorating William Carr of Etal Manor, located on the right return.
At the north end, there is a projecting mid-19th century threshing barn with a hipped roof, followed by a lean-to engine house and a tall square chimney with a cornice. The view from the north presents an irregular and picturesque appearance.
