Description
The War Memorial by the Church of St Giles is a Grade II listed structure created by Messrs Beattie & Co. It is made of white marble and features a Latin cross adorned with a wreath and a slung rifle, all carved in relief on the shaft of the cross. The memorial is set on a two-part plinth, with the upper section designed to resemble a scroll that bears the inscription "IN/HONOUR OF/THE MEN/FROM THIS PARISH/WHO FELL IN THE/GREAT WAR/1914-1918."
The names of those who fell are inscribed in a single column on the front face of the main plinth, along with an inscription noting "1939 -1945" on the left side. The memorial stands on a two-stepped base. This elegant memorial commemorates the dead of both the First and Second World Wars.
