Description

Bowmont House was originally a Scottish Presbyterian church and manse, and it has since been converted into a house and pottery workshop. Built in 1850, the manse was slightly extended later. The building is rendered with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof.

The former church and the older parts of the manse are all under one roof, with a later extension projecting on the right side. The original building has angle pilaster strips, with the church being a tall single storey and the house having two storeys. The church includes two large round-headed windows with intersecting glazing bars, while the manse on the right has one 12-pane sash window on the ground floor and two on the first floor.

There is a four-panelled door with four-pane side lights set in a stone porch that has a moulded cornice and a pent roof, located in the re-entrant angle between the original and later buildings. The projecting later wing features angle pilaster strips, a three-light window on the ground floor, and a two-light window above.

The original building has a large hipped roof with a corniced ridge stack over the manse section, while the later extension has a hipped roof with a rendered ridge stack. On the left return, there are three bays with two rows of 12-pane sash windows.
