Description

The Old Guardhouse is a small, simple, and dignified stone building from the 18th century, located on the south side of Palace Green and facing down Palace Street. It features a portico supported by four Tuscan columns and topped with a pediment. Behind the columns, there is a recess that includes a door and two windows at the back, along with a door at each end. Each wing of the building contains one window. Above the main door, there is a board that reads, "Formerly in Marygate, rebuilt on this site 1843." At the time of the survey, the building was disused, and the windows were boarded up. The interior consists of two rooms, with a vaulted windowless prison chamber located between them.
