Description

The buildings and yard walls to the north of Bilton House consist of a coach house, stable, and outbuildings, dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, possibly incorporating elements from the 18th century. They are constructed from roughly-squared stone with tooled and margined quoins and dressings, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The structures are arranged around a rectangular yard, with ranges on the north and east sides.

The north range is three storeys high on the left side, featuring a taller coach house with boarded double doors set under a segmental arch. It has coped gables and a square wooden dovecote on the ridge, which has two tiers of arched openings and a pyramidal cap. An external stone stair, with its lower section removed, leads up to a boarded door on the second floor. To the right is a two-bay stable that includes a doorway in the right bay and irregular fenestration, with one slatted window and another part-boarded, all within old openings that have chamfered alternating-block surrounds and slightly projecting sills. There is also a 3.5-metre high attached wall with blocked openings, set back to the left of the coach house.

The east range is a single storey with four irregular bays. The elevation facing the yard features two stable doors and a cart entrance with a timber lintel at the right end, and the roof is hipped to the right. The rear elevation includes three boarded doors and three windows, all in old chamfered surrounds, with boarded double doors located at the far left.

The yard wall connects the south-west corner of the east range to the rear wing of the house, standing 2 metres high with gabled coping and a central gateway.
