Description
This boundary stone, located on the boundary with Ellingham Parish Council, dates from around 1755. It is made from a large, unshaped stone that may have previously served as a boundary or route marker. The stone is tilted and features incised letters: "C H" for Carnaby Haggerston on the north side and "I C" for John Cay on the south side. The top of the stone shows signs of erosion. This stone is the westernmost in a series that extends across Middle Moor. Sir Carnaby Haggerston held the manor of Ellingham from 1740 to 1756, while John Cay held North Charlton from 1754 to 1782; these stones mark the boundary between their respective townships.
