Description
The gatehouse to Staward Pele, dating from the late medieval period, is located 65 metres south-east of the Pele. It is constructed from coursed rubble with large squared quoins, most of which are made from re-used Roman material. Only the northern corner of the structure remains, situated to the right of the path leading to the Pele, just beyond the narrowest part of the ridge, and it stands to a height of approximately 5 metres. A Roman altar that was previously used as a quoin has been removed to Staward Manor.
