Description
Staward Pele is a tower house, possibly dating from the 14th century. It is constructed of large squared stone and consists of the remains of three walls forming a rectangular structure approximately 20 metres by 10 metres. The external wall faces feature a stepped plinth and rise to a height of 5 metres. There are no surviving openings in the walls. The site is dramatically situated on a wooded promontory, high above where the Allen River meets the Harsondale Burn.
