Description
Nos. 3-6 The Square is a terrace of houses built in the mid-18th century and altered in the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of rubble with stone dressings and feature a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high and consist of eight irregular bays. The vertical-panelled doors are located in bay 2 (No. 6) and between bays 3 and 4 (No. 7), with the first door having a two-pane overlight. There are renewed doors between bays 4 and 5 and bay 6 (No. 4), as well as between bays 7 and 8 (No. 3). The windows in bays 1-4 are 12-pane sashes, while the other windows are late 19th-century sashes, except for a 20th-century shop window in bay 5. All window openings are framed with irregular-block surrounds. Additionally, fragments of medieval window heads are built into the wall flanking the windows in bay 1. The left end of the terrace has a stone finish and features four ridge stacks.
