Description
The Town Hall, dated 1876, is located in Newbrough and is designed in the Italianate style. It features ashlar stonework with rusticated quoins and a hipped slate roof, complemented by ashlar stacks with heavy cornices. The building is a rectangular block with a meeting hall extending to the rear.
The front elevation is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with the central bay set forward and adorned with rusticated quoins. The central doorway is framed by heavy Tuscan pilasters and an entablature, and it is flanked by paired round-arched windows that have chamfered keystones, plain imposts, and projecting corbelled sills. Above the doorway is an inscription that reads: "TOWN HALL PRESENTED TO THE INHABITANTS OF NEWBROUGH BY MISS JANE TODD."
On the first floor, above a moulded string course, there is a sash window in the central bay, flanked by paired sash windows, all set in raised stop-chamfered surrounds with chamfered heads. The building features a moulded cornice and a panelled parapet. The pilastered central bay also holds a clock and supports a pediment with an acroterion, with a bell cote situated behind it. The Town Hall is included for its historical interest.
