Description

The terrace wall located approximately 30 yards south of Belsay Hall is a Grade II listed structure built between 1810 and 1817 by Sir Charles Monck. This retaining wall is made of ashlar and measures about 140 yards long and 8 feet high, divided into two sections.

On the left side, there is a 50-yard section featuring 11 segmental arches that create recesses approximately 4 feet deep. Adjacent to this is a section of plain walling. On the right side, the plain walling extends at a canted angle to the northeast for about 50 yards, concluding with a very large square pier.
