Description
The Gate Lodge, located 500 metres south-west of Longhirst Hall, was built around 1824, likely by the architect Dobson. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a slate roof. The south elevation features a single storey and one bay, with a moulded plinth and eaves cornice. There is a projecting porch with a pediment supported by monolith piers. A renewed 12-pane sash window has been inserted where a former doorway was located. The roof is hipped with a stepped and corniced ridge stack. The right side of the building has three bays, divided by broad, shallow pilasters, with 16-pane sash windows in the end bays. There is a 20th-century extension set back to the left, which is not of interest.
