Description
The south part of the farmbuilding range, located 20 metres northeast of Humbleheugh Farmhouse, is a Grade II listed structure from the early 19th century. This building includes a byre, henhouse, shelter sheds, and a granary. It is constructed from roughly-squared stone with rubble at the rear, featuring tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings. The roof is covered with 20th-century synthetic blue slates.
The east elevation, facing the farmyard, is two storeys high and consists of four bays. The left bay contains a central stable door leading to the byre, with slit vents on both floors flanking it. To the right, there is a segmental arcade leading to the shelter shed, which has low windows above for the granary. The gables are coped. The left return of the building features an external stair leading to a boarded door for the henhouse.
On the rear elevation, the right bay has a doorway and a henhole with a stone shelf above, both flanked by slit vents, while granary windows are located to the left. All doorways, windows, and arches have chamfered alternating-block surrounds.
Inside, the henhouse is lined with stone nesting boxes built into the wall thickness.
