Description
The bastle houses at Ottercops Farm are two attached dwellings that have been converted into farm stores. The eastern part of the structure is recorded as dating back to 1604, while the western part is from the early 17th century and was partly rebuilt in the 18th or early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of random rubble and topped with a Welsh slate roof.
On the ground floor, there are two 19th-century doorways featuring stable-type doors. To the right, there is an original slit window with a chamfered surround. In the center, later stone steps lead to the original first-floor doorways. To the right of these steps is a small window with a chamfered surround, while a later window is located to the left. The roof is gabled and includes brick stacks at both ends and along the ridge.
There is an original blocked ground-floor doorway on the right return, which has a chamfered surround and a relieving arch above the lintel. Additionally, there are outside stone steps on the left return.
Inside, the walls are 54 inches thick.
