Description

Harewalls is a farmhouse that was originally a bastle house, with attached farm buildings. The house dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and has been altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The farm buildings were constructed in the 18th century. The house is built of random rubble with large quoins and a boulder plinth, while the farm buildings are made of coursed stone. It has a Welsh slate roof.

The house is two stories high and has three bays, with a later outshut added to the rear. There is a two-story farm building attached to the left. The walls of the house are approximately four feet thick. It features an almost central later doorway and 19th-century sash windows. There is a blocked original bastle upper door located above and slightly to the left of the main door, as well as a blocked original bastle ground-floor door in the byre on the left side, which is also visible in the fireplace inside. The interior displays old beams throughout the ground floor.

The farm buildings to the left contain three byres on the ground floor, each with plain surrounds to their doors, and a granary above, which is accessed by a stone stair at the rear. In front of the buildings, there is a platform made of massive stone slabs.
