Description
The stable block, dating from the mid 19th century, is located 50 metres north-west of Stagshaw House. It is constructed of rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof topped with a wooden bell turret that has a lead cap. The building is designed in the Italianate style and is arranged around a rectangular yard.
The east elevation is one storey high and consists of seven symmetrical bays. The central bay slightly projects and features a pediment. On either side of a round-arched doorway, which has rusticated pilasters, moulded imposts, and a triple keystone, there is a cornice supported by large paired brackets. Above the doorway, a clock is set within a panelled surround. The square bell turret has wavy louvres beneath segmental arches and is capped with a pyramidal roof and weathervane. The side sections are framed by segmental arches and contain segment-headed windows with raised stone surrounds and projecting bracketed sills, along with end pilasters.
The left return of the building displays similar architectural details and is one storey with a basement, featuring five bays on the left and three bays on the right. The lower left part has a four-bay blind arcade with a keyed oculus at the far left. The right return is also one storey and consists of three bays on the left and five bays on the right, with a blind arcade on the taller left section.
