Description
This is a headstone located 12 metres south-west of the door of the Church of St. Mary in Blanchland. It dates from 1748 and is made of sandstone. The stone is small with a crudely-shaped top and features an incised inscription dedicated to An Ward, which is misspelled and has some letters reversed. The headstone is signed with the initials IW, which also appear on several buildings in the village, showcasing rural vernacular masoncraft.
