Description

The lychgate to Bellingham Cemetery, built around 1920, is designed in the Arts and Craft style and constructed from ashlar with a stone slate roof. The front features a pointed arch that has one step and two chamfers that die into imposts. On either side of the arch are square recesses with double roll-moulded surrounds, which display the dates of the World Wars. Above the arch, there is a sword and wreath carved in high relief, with part of the sword forming the letter "I" in the inscription "IN MEMORIAM 1914/18." The lychgate is topped with a mansard roof that has swept coping on each pitch, creating a wavy profile.
