Description

Newbrough Lodge is a house built in 1796, which was later enlarged in the 19th century and again in 1928. The building features tooled and margined ashlar stonework, a slate roof, and ashlar stepped gable stacks. The main block is rectangular and is flanked by two-storey porches added in 1928. To the right of the main block is a rear wing that likely dates from the same time as the main building, while the left rear wing was added in the late 19th century. These two rear wings are connected by a 1928 wing that encloses a rectangular courtyard.

The front elevation has two storeys and three windows, with set-back two-storey side porches. It includes ground and first floor sill bands. A central six-panel door is accessed by three semicircular steps and is set within a plain doorcase topped by a broad radial fanlight, all enclosed in an elliptical-arched recess with alternating raised jambs. The windows are 16-pane sashes in raised surrounds. Each porch features a segmental-headed arch with a 12-pane sash above, along with two segmental-headed arches on each return. The gables of the rear wings, set further back, have 12- and 16-pane sashes, some of which have been replaced. The right return displays various sash windows with glazing bars, including a canted oriel, while the left return has a square two-storey bay and an archway leading into the courtyard. The rear elevation of the main block features a central round-headed stair window with Y-tracery and alternating raised voussoirs, flanked at the first floor by 16-pane sashes. Inside, there is a notable late 18th-century marble fireplace and a curving late 18th-century staircase, along with six-panel doors and panelled shutters throughout.
