Description
The garden walls and explosives store located to the south of the lighthouse and buildings were constructed around 1841, although they incorporate older masonry on the west side. The explosives store dates from the late 19th century or early 20th century. The garden walls are made of squared stone, while the explosives store is likely constructed of concrete, rendered, and whitewashed.
The west wall of the garden is 2 metres high and features roughly-stepped and embattled coping, incorporating masonry from the pre-1841 garden wall as shown on old plans. The other walls stand at 1.5 metres high with flat coping.
The explosives store, which is attached to the internal face of the south wall near the west end, has a stepped barrel roof and small openings fitted with heavy iron shutters. It has inner and outer wooden doors at each end and is divided into two compartments that are shelved and boarded around the interior.
This structure is included for its group value.
