Description
Adderstone Hall is a Grade II* listed house built in 1819 by William Burn. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a plinth and features a Welsh slate roof, showcasing a classical style. The building has two storeys and is arranged in a five by three bay layout, with a lower four-bay service wing to the left.
The entrance boasts a large port-cochère supported by antae and angle pilasters, topped with a cornice and a corniced blocking course. There are four steps leading up to a recessed tripartite doorway, which has a panelled two-leaf door flanked by pilasters and three-pane sidelights, along with a shallow segmental fanlight above. The ground floor is adorned with long 14-pane sash windows in plain reveals, while the upper floor features 12-pane sashes. The building is capped with a cornice and corniced parapet, and the hipped roof includes two corniced ridge stacks and a glazed drum with a shallow dome. On the left return, there is a large tripartite stair window set in a segmental recess.
The service wing has three 12-pane sash windows on the right side. The left bay of the wing projects slightly forward and features a 14-pane sash window within an architrave that has a floating cornice.
Inside, the full-height central hall is complemented by balconies on the left and right, featuring scrolled iron balusters and illuminated by the glazed drum above, which is adorned with restrained plasterwork. The open-well cantilevered stair has iron balusters decorated with palmette motifs. The drawing room is highlighted by a white marble fireplace that includes wreaths and a Greek key design.
