Description
Gardener's Cottage, located approximately 300 yards west of Twizell House, is a mid to late 19th-century gardener's cottage built in a Tudor style. The structure is made of snecked stone and features a Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys. It has an L-plan design and stands two storeys tall with three bays. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed, two-leaf door set in a double-chamfered, segmental-arched surround, which is located within an embattled recess. On either side of the door are three-light mullioned windows, each with eight-pane casements. The first floor has similar windows in the outer bays, which are set in gabled half-dormers adorned with shields and ball finials above. Above the entrance, there are two small two-light mullioned windows. The gabled roof features flat coping, kneelers, and raised and shaped peaks at the gables, along with a large central ridge stack that has six clustered corniced stacks.
