Description
Marine House Private Hotel is a former vicarage that was converted in the 19th century from an 18th-century granary. The building is constructed of squared stone, except for the snecked stone north wing, which features cut dressings. It has a graduated Lakeland slate roof, with Welsh slates on the north wing.
The front elevation is divided into two parts. On the left is the gable end of the main range, which has three storeys and an attic, featuring two windows on each main floor and one in the attic. All windows are 4-pane sashes set in alternating-block surrounds, with slightly projecting sills. To the right is the 19th-century north wing, which is two storeys tall and has two bays. This wing includes a segmental-arched entrance in the left bay and a canted pyramid-roofed oriel in the right bay, with all windows also being 4-pane sashes. The right end gable is coped and has a stepped and corniced end stack.
The left return of the building shows additional 4-pane sashes, one gabled roof dormer, and various blocked openings. The roof is hipped to the left, with a stepped and corniced ridge and left end stacks.
